Thu Oct 03 01:57:17 UTC 2024: ## Prashant Kishor’s “Jan Suraj” Faces Opposition on Liquor Ban

Patna, October 2nd: Prashant Kishor, political strategist and founder of the newly formed party “Jan Suraj”, launched his party in Patna on Wednesday. However, his promise to repeal Bihar’s liquor ban upon assuming power has already met with resistance from women in the state.

While several women attended the party’s launch event, expressing support for change and criticizing corruption under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s rule, they vehemently opposed the proposed removal of the liquor ban. Women from various districts, including a group from Rafiganj, Aurangabad, stated that they would actively oppose any attempt to lift the ban, and some even threatened to “leave everything behind” if Kishor followed through on his promise.

Women cited the existing fear of alcohol consumption and the potential for its devastating impact on families as reasons for their opposition. They emphasized that while illegal liquor sales persist, the ban has instilled a sense of caution and prevented widespread abuse.

It’s worth noting that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has consistently claimed that the liquor ban was implemented in response to strong demands from women in the state. His political strategy has always relied heavily on securing their votes.

While some women attending the event admitted that they were present at the behest of their local leaders, several were aware of the “Jan Suraj” party and the campaign being spearheaded by Prashant Kishor.

Kishor’s “Jan Suraj” party aims to bring about a change in Bihar’s political landscape. The party’s launch and the immediate opposition to one of its key promises highlight the challenging political landscape in the state. The issue of the liquor ban promises to be a significant point of contention in the upcoming elections.
