**Bratislava, Slovakia** – Former Manchester City midfielder **Vladimir Weiss** has spoken fondly of his time at the club, despite admitting to the challenges he faced as a young player. The 34-year-old, who now captains Slovan Bratislava, broke into the City first team under manager Roberto Mancini, but his chances were limited due to the arrival of top-quality players.
“I have the best memories of my time at City,” Weiss stated, “It was an amazing achievement to break through to the first team at a young age with the players that were already in the squad.” He went on to explain that while he enjoyed his time at the club, the competition for places grew intense.
“I am always going to watch City, not just because they’re my first club but because they play the best football in the world for me,” he added. “To watch City for me is a pleasure. I’m following the club and it’s a club that’s always going to stay in my heart.”
Weiss’ time in Manchester wasn’t always easy. He spent time away from home and endured a period of homesickness. “I left here at a young age and the beginning was extremely difficult,” he said. “I fought through it with the help of my parents and everyone at Manchester City of which I’m very grateful because I wanted to go back, I was really homesick.” He went on to say that the challenges ultimately made him the player he is today.
After his time at City, Weiss went on to play for Bolton Wanderers, Rangers, and Espanyol on loan, before signing permanently with Pescara in 2012. He has since become a key player for Slovan Bratislava. Despite the challenges of his early career, Weiss looks back on his time at City with pride and gratitude, stating that it is a club that will always hold a special place in his heart.
