**NEW YORK** – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan expressed hope for better relations with the United States under the next administration, stating that Turkey has been disappointed by both Republicans and Democrats in recent years.
Speaking to Turkish journalists in New York before departing from the UN General Assembly, Erdoğan cited the disappointment of Turkey with past US administrations, specifically mentioning the sanctions imposed by former President Donald Trump over Turkey’s purchase of Russian defense systems. He further noted that Turkey continues to seek reimbursement for the money spent on F-35 fighter jets after being removed from the program due to the Russian purchases.
Erdoğan expressed hope that the next US president, whoever it may be, would not make Turkey miss the outgoing one. He stressed that both Republicans and Democrats have caused disappointment for Turkey in the past.
The 2024 US election is scheduled for November, with Republican Donald Trump and Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris expected to be the main contenders.
