**NEW YORK** – Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan has expressed hope that the next US president will usher in a period of improved relations, stating that Turkey has been disappointed by both Republican and Democratic administrations in the past.

Speaking to Turkish journalists in New York before departing from the UN General Assembly, Erdogan specifically cited the sanctions imposed on Turkey by former President Donald Trump over Ankara’s purchase of Russian defense systems. He also reiterated Turkey’s demand for reimbursement for the F-35 fighter jets it was removed from after acquiring the Russian equipment.

“My hope is that whoever comes does not make us miss the outgoing one,” Erdogan was quoted as saying. “They all made us experience this disappointment. The Republicans and Democrats.”

The 2024 US presidential election will pit incumbent Republican Donald Trump against Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris.
