Wed Oct 02 10:57:53 UTC 2024: ## Stock Market to be Closed on Gandhi Jayanti, Muhurat Trading Scheduled for Diwali
The National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will be closed on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, in observance of Gandhi Jayanti, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. All trading activities, including equities, derivatives, and securities lending and borrowing, will be suspended for the day. The Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will also be closed for both trading sessions. Normal trading will resume on Thursday, October 3.
The stock market will also observe other holidays in the coming months, including Gurunanak Jayanti on November 15 and Christmas on December 25. However, a special “Muhurat trading” session will be held on November 1, 2024, to mark the auspicious occasion of Diwali and Laxmi Pujan.
Despite the upcoming holiday, the benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty were trading higher on Tuesday, fueled by overnight gains on Wall Street. The Sensex rose 131 points to 84,431, while the Nifty50 was trading at 25,839, up 28 points.
This news comes amid continued slowdown in India’s manufacturing sector, as indicated by the recent slip in the PMI (Purchasing Managers’ Index) in September.
