Wed Oct 02 07:20:18 UTC 2024: ## Climate Activist Sonam Wangchuk and 150 Ladakh Residents Detained Again After Release

**New Delhi:** Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk and 150 Ladakh residents were released late Tuesday night by Delhi Police but were promptly detained again. The group was initially allowed to leave police stations but their insistence on marching towards the heart of Delhi led to their re-arrest.

Wangchuk and the Ladakh residents were detained on Monday night at the Singhu border for violating prohibitory orders as they attempted to enter the national capital to push for their demands. They were undertaking a “Delhi Chalo” foot march that began a month ago in Leh, led by Wangchuk. The march was organized by the Leh Apex Body, who have been advocating with the Kargil Democratic Alliance for four years to grant Ladakh statehood, inclusion in the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution, and other demands.

A representative of the protesting group stated that those detained have embarked on an indefinite hunger strike. They have vowed to remain at the police stations even after release unless they are permitted to march to the Gandhi Smriti on Wednesday.

Wangchuk and other detainees are being held at Bawana police station, while others are being held at Narela Industrial Area, Alipur, and Kanjhawala police stations.

This news comes amidst growing tensions between the Delhi Police and the Ladakh residents seeking political autonomy. The situation remains tense as both sides hold firm to their respective positions.
