**Milan, Italy** – The iconic San Siro stadium will not host the 2027 Champions League final, UEFA announced yesterday. Despite being initially awarded hosting rights, the governing body deemed the stadium unsuitable due to potential refurbishment works that could affect the event.
The decision comes after UEFA sought more information on refurbishment plans for the 80,000-seat stadium, home to Inter Milan and AC Milan. However, the Municipality of Milano could not guarantee that the stadium and its surroundings would be free from construction during the final.
This development comes after rumors last month suggested San Siro might miss out on hosting the final. Inter and AC Milan have both been working on separate stadium projects, but Milan mayor Giuseppe Sala is pushing for a renovation of the current stadium to keep the clubs together.
“UEFA expects to appoint a new host for the 2027 Champions League final in May or June 2025,” the organization stated.
San Siro was previously awarded the 2027 final, marking its third time hosting the event. Budapest has already secured the 2026 final, while the Allianz Arena in Munich will host this season’s competition.
The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) had requested a guarantee that no construction would be underway at the stadium in May 2027, but this was deemed unlikely. This guarantee would have delayed the renovation of San Siro by another three years.
With San Siro out of the running, a new bidding process will begin to find a suitable venue for the 2027 Champions League final.
