Mon Sep 30 12:30:00 UTC 2024: ## Eclipse Foundation Launches Open Regulatory Compliance Working Group to Address Global Open Source Regulations

**Brussels, [Date]** – The Eclipse Foundation, one of the largest open source foundations globally, has launched a new Open Regulatory Compliance Working Group (ORCWG) to help navigate and comply with increasingly complex global regulations affecting the open source community. Led by Executive Director Mike Milinkovich, the ORCWG aims to bridge the gap between regulatory bodies and open source developers.

The group’s initial focus is on the European Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), which is set to come into force soon. With the CRA’s tight standardization timeline, the ORCWG aims to ensure the open source community’s unique needs are addressed in the upcoming regulations.

“The CRA is a crucial piece of legislation that will significantly impact the open source ecosystem,” stated Milinkovich. “We need to ensure that open source developers have the tools and processes they need to comply with these regulations.”

The ORCWG boasts a diverse membership, including major tech players like Bosch, Mercedes-Benz, Nokia, and Siemens, alongside smaller companies and numerous open source foundations like the Apache Software Foundation, Blender Foundation, and the Open Source Initiative (OSI).

The group plans to expand its focus beyond the CRA to other key areas like AI, data sovereignty, and the software supply chain.

“Our goal is to work with regulatory authorities to formalize industry best practices and make sure they are properly referenced in legislation,” said Milinkovich. “We want to ensure that open source participants can meet regulatory requirements across jurisdictions and improve software quality and security.”

The ORCWG welcomes participation from all organizations. Interested parties can learn more about joining the group on the ORCWG’s participation page: [https://orcwg.org/participate/](https://orcwg.org/participate/).
