**Pune, Maharashtra:** A tragic helicopter crash claimed the lives of three people, including two pilots and an engineer, in Pune’s Bavdhan area on Wednesday morning. The incident occurred around 6:45 am, shortly after the helicopter took off from a helipad located at a nearby golf course.
The helicopter, identified as a Heritage Aviation aircraft with registration number VT EVV, was chartered by the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and was en route to Mumbai. According to NCP chief Sunil Tatkare, he was scheduled to travel to Raigad in the helicopter.
The victims have been identified as pilots Paramjit Singh and G K Pillai, and engineer Pritam Bharadwaj. Eyewitnesses reported seeing the helicopter engulfed in flames and a large plume of smoke rising from the crash site.
Firefighters from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) immediately responded to the scene. While the exact cause of the crash remains under investigation, authorities suspect that dense fog may have played a role.
This incident marks the second helicopter crash in the Pune region in recent months. In August, a private helicopter flying from Mumbai to Hyderabad crashed in Paud village, although all four occupants survived with injuries.
Authorities are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the precise cause of the crash and prevent similar incidents in the future.
