Wed Oct 02 14:56:28 UTC 2024: ## Mumbai City FC Captain Lallianzuala Chhangte Confident Despite Rough Start to ISL Season

**MUMBAI, INDIA** – Mumbai City FC captain Lallianzuala Chhangte has expressed confidence in his team’s ability to bounce back from a disappointing start to the Indian Super League (ISL) season, despite the club’s struggles to find a win in their first two matches.

Chhangte, named AIFF Men’s Player of the Year for the second consecutive time, admitted that the team is still adapting to the new squad and faces challenges with defending set pieces. However, he remains optimistic about the season ahead, emphasizing the importance of team unity and the need to improve defensively.

“The expectations are high from the fans, but we have a lot of new players,” Chhangte said in an exclusive interview with Firstpost. “It’ll take time to settle and adapt to our playing style. We played the way the coach wanted, but we conceded most of the goals from set pieces. We’re aware of that and working tirelessly to do better.”

The 27-year-old winger, who signed a new contract with Mumbai City until 2027, also discussed the club’s recent departures and additions. While acknowledging the strength of other clubs like Bengaluru FC and Mohun Bagan Super Giant, Chhangte remains focused on Mumbai City’s internal development and believes they will have a successful season.

“Almost half of the players are new,” he said. “But we’re building a strong unity and I have a very positive feeling that it will work out. Everyone is working hard and gelling well.”

Regarding his own ambitions, Chhangte, who recently won the FPAI (Football Players’ Association of India) award, revealed his long-term goal to play abroad. However, he currently prioritizes his responsibilities with Mumbai City and doesn’t see himself leaving the club anytime soon.

“My aim is to become the best version of myself,” Chhangte said. “I had a dream since I was a kid to play for European clubs or maybe in Asia. But looking at my age, I don’t know if this is the right time. But if the opportunity comes, I would take the risk.”

Chhangte also discussed the transition under the new India coach Manolo Marquez, praising his experience and ability to develop young players. He is confident that the Indian national team will achieve positive results under Marquez’s leadership.

With a new season underway and a fresh start for Mumbai City FC, Lallianzuala Chhangte stands ready to lead his team towards success both on and off the field.
