Wed Oct 02 12:06:22 UTC 2024: ## Coco Gauff Embarks on Cultural Immersion Ahead of China Open
American tennis star Coco Gauff, currently ranked No. 6 in the world, is making the most of her time in Beijing ahead of the China Open. Before hitting the court, Gauff has been exploring the city’s rich cultural offerings, documenting her experiences on social media.
Gauff shared a video of herself touring the Great Wall of China, joking that she had “rented the Great Wall all to myself.” The stunning view from the ancient structure provided a dramatic perspective on its massive scale.
After her Great Wall adventure, Gauff joined forces with men’s World No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz for a traditional Chinese experience in Beijing. The pair donned traditional garb, with Gauff sporting a flowing qipao (a formal mandarin gown) and Alcaraz opting for a fitted changshan with a dragon design.
While Gauff and Alcaraz will be competing for top honors at the WTA 1000 (masters) tournament, their immersion into Chinese culture demonstrates the rewards of exploring a new place.
Gauff, seeded No. 4, begins her China Open journey on Thursday, September 26, facing Clara Burel of France in the Round of 64. Alcaraz, seeded No. 2, will take on Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard of France in the Round of 32 on Wednesday night.
