**Mumbai, India – October 2, 2024** – The Indian stock markets, including the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), are closed today in observance of Gandhi Jayanti, a national holiday celebrating the birth of Mahatma Gandhi.
The closure affects trading in all segments, including equity, equity derivatives, and SLB. The Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) is also closed for both trading sessions.
Normal trading operations will resume tomorrow, Thursday, October 3.
**Market Performance Before Closure**
Before the holiday closure, the domestic benchmarks ended lower, with the 30-share BSE Sensex shedding 0.04% and the NSE Nifty index down 0.05%. Energy shares were a major drag on the market.
Mid- and small-cap shares performed better, with Nifty Midcap 100 ending unchanged and Nifty Smallcap 100 climbing 0.08%.
**Upcoming Holidays**
The next trading holiday will be on Friday, November 1, for Diwali Laxmi Pujan. Other upcoming market closures in 2024 include Diwali on November 1, Guru Nanak Jayanti on November 15, and Christmas on December 25.
**Muhurat Trading Session**
A special Muhurat trading session, marking the auspicious occasion of Diwali and the beginning of Samvat 2081, will be conducted by the exchanges on November 1.
**Technical Analysis**
Rupak De, Senior Technical Analyst at LKP Securities, noted that the Nifty formed a “doji pattern” on daily charts, suggesting market indecision. He also pointed out strong resistance at the 25,800 level, while the immediate support sits at 25,750. A break below this level could push the index towards 25,600-25,500.
