**Patna, October 2, 2024:** Poll strategist-turned-politician Prashant Kishor launched his new political outfit, the Jan Suraaj Party (JSP), on Gandhi Jayanti, marking a significant step in his political journey. The launch, held in Patna, was preceded by two years of padyatras (foot marches) across 17 districts and 5,500 villages, allowing Kishor to directly connect with the people of Bihar.
Kishor unveiled a series of ambitious plans, including the party’s constitution, its flag, and a unique approach to candidate selection.
**Key Announcements:**
* **Unique Flag:** The JSP flag will feature images of Mahatma Gandhi and Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar, a tribute to their contributions to India’s freedom struggle and constitution.
* **Right to Recall:** The JSP is the first party in India to incorporate the ‘Right to Recall’ in its constitution. This allows voters to revoke the mandate of their elected representative if they are found guilty of corruption or misconduct within two years of their election.
* **People-Driven Candidate Selection:** Unlike traditional parties, JSP candidates will not be chosen by party leaders. Instead, the public will have the final say. Kishor, drawing inspiration from the US election system, explained this process, emphasizing that the chosen candidate will be the one who convinces the public and party members of their agenda.
* **Transparent Candidate Selection Process:** By March 2025, all potential candidates from every assembly constituency will be made public. From March to November 2024, party members will scrutinize their backgrounds and, ultimately, the voters will decide their candidate.
* **Opposition Presence:** Kishor announced that the JSP will be a force in the opposition by November 2024, and will contest the upcoming Bihar bypolls.
* **Working President:** IITian Manoj Bharti, hailing from Bihar’s Madhubani, was announced as the party’s working president.
Kishor also reiterated his commitment to democratic principles, stating that the party’s agenda for Bihar will be released in January or February of next year. He assured that the party would prioritize the people’s needs and provide unwavering support to capable candidates.
With its focus on transparency, grassroots engagement, and the unique ‘Right to Recall’, the Jan Suraaj Party aims to disrupt the political landscape of Bihar and bring about a new era of accountability and people-centric governance.
