Tue Oct 01 23:20:44 UTC 2024: ## ‘Ring of Fire’ Solar Eclipse to Grace Skies on October 2nd, But Not Visible in India

**Bengaluru, India:** The year’s final and second solar eclipse will occur on October 2nd, 2024, according to astronomical predictions. This eclipse will be an annular solar eclipse, popularly known as the “Ring of Fire,” where the moon covers the sun, leaving a visible ring of sunlight. While eclipses typically occur on new moon days, this particular eclipse marks the end of the Pitru Paksha (ancestral fortnight) which began with the lunar eclipse.

However, despite the celestial spectacle, the ‘Ring of Fire’ will not be visible from India, similar to the recent lunar eclipse. Consequently, the eclipse’s ‘sutak’ (inauspicious time) will not be observed in the country.

The eclipse will be visible across various parts of the globe, including South America, the southern regions of North America, the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Peru, New Zealand, and Fiji. It will be fully visible in South Chile and South Argentina, lasting for a total of 6 hours and 4 minutes.

An annular solar eclipse occurs when the moon is at its farthest point from Earth, resulting in its apparent size being smaller than the sun. This prevents the moon from completely covering the sun, leaving a visible ring of light.

The eclipse will commence at 11:42 AM and conclude at 2:45 PM according to American local time.

While this celestial event will not be visible from India, it is sure to be a spectacular sight for those fortunate enough to be in the path of totality.
