Wed Oct 02 17:17:31 UTC 2024: ## Unidentified Drones Breach Security at Ajanta Caves, Authorities on High Alert
**Aurangabad, Maharashtra:** The world-renowned Ajanta Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, faced a serious security breach on Friday night when three unidentified drones entered the restricted zone within the cave complex, staying for a staggering five hours. The incident has raised concerns about the security of the ancient monument and prompted authorities to step up measures to prevent future breaches.
The incident, which occurred around 8:15 PM, sent the security personnel and Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) staff on high alert. The presence of the drones, despite strict regulations prohibiting them within a 300-meter radius of the caves, sparked immediate investigations.
Following the incident, ASI officials, including Manoj Pawar, the Conservation Assistant Officer, rushed to the site along with the Tourism Corporation’s Manager, Raj Patil, and the Assistant Police Inspector of Fardapur Police Station, Prafull Sabale. They conducted a thorough search of the entire area and reassured the security personnel.
“The unauthorized entry of drones into the restricted zone is a serious concern. The Ajanta Caves are a site of immense historical and cultural importance, and their security is paramount,” stated Mr. Pawar. He further added, “The ASI has strict rules regarding drone operation near the caves, and any deviation is taken very seriously.”
The incident has prompted the authorities to consider deploying anti-drone technology and increasing patrols around the caves. “We are investigating the incident and taking necessary steps to enhance security measures. We are considering using anti-drone guns and increasing the frequency of patrols,” said Prafull Sabale.
Mr. Patil emphasized that despite the incident, there is no need for panic amongst visitors. He added that the presence of 37 CCTV cameras, security personnel, and police officers ensures round-the-clock surveillance at the Ajanta Caves.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerability of historical monuments to unauthorized intrusion and the need for continuous vigilance to safeguard their integrity. The authorities are committed to ensuring the safety and preservation of the Ajanta Caves for future generations.
