Mon Sep 30 23:37:18 UTC 2024: ## Clippers Coach Lue Backs Troubled Guard Kevin Porter Jr. for Success

**LOS ANGELES, CA -** The Los Angeles Clippers made a splash in the offseason by signing talented but troubled guard Kevin Porter Jr. to a two-year deal. While some fans and experts questioned the move due to Porter’s legal issues in late 2023, Clippers head coach Ty Lue expressed unwavering confidence in the 24-year-old’s ability to contribute.

“He definitely can make an impact,” Lue stated, referring to Porter’s lucrative contract with the Houston Rockets in 2022. “You don’t get paid $20 million a year if you can’t play.”

After a brief stint with the Oklahoma City Thunder and a dominant run in Greece with PAOK, where he averaged 22 points, 9.8 rebounds, 6.8 assists, and 2.8 steals per game, Porter returned to the NBA with the Clippers.

Lue acknowledged Porter’s previous inconsistencies and struggles with ball security, but emphasized his belief in the guard’s potential. “He’s a great talent,” Lue said. “It’s gonna be my job to make sure we get the best out of him. He can score the basketball, he can make plays, and I’m gonna stay on him and coach him hard.”

The Clippers are hoping Porter can fill the void left by injured All-Star Paul George, and Lue believes Porter’s skillset can significantly contribute to the team’s success. “For us to have success, he’s gonna be a big part of that, so I’m excited for him and the opportunity to coach him,” Lue concluded.
