Tue Oct 01 16:56:49 UTC 2024: ## Annular Solar Eclipse to Grace Skies on October 2nd, Visible in Parts of South America

**New Delhi:** An annular solar eclipse, a celestial spectacle where the moon passes between the sun and Earth, is set to occur on October 2nd, 2024. This will be the second solar eclipse of the year, following the one that occurred in April. This time, the eclipse will be particularly intriguing as it will create a “ring of fire” effect, where the sun will appear as a bright ring around the moon’s silhouette.

The eclipse will begin at 9:14 PM IST and last for approximately 6 hours and 3 minutes, ending at 3:17 AM IST. However, the event will not be visible in India as it will be nighttime during the eclipse.

While the eclipse is not visible in India, it will be visible in parts of South America, Antarctica, and the Indian Ocean.

The annular solar eclipse is not associated with any “sutak” period, which is a period of time considered inauspicious in Indian culture during eclipses. The absence of sutak is due to the eclipse not being visible in India.

NASA advises viewers to use handheld filters while observing the eclipse to protect their eyes from potential damage. The event can also be viewed on NASA’s website.

This celestial event is sure to captivate skywatchers around the world, offering a breathtaking glimpse into the wonders of the universe.
