Sun Sep 29 22:17:43 UTC 2024: ## Ohtani Falls Short of Triple Crown, Dodgers Win in Blackmon’s Farewell

**Denver, CO** – Shohei Ohtani fell short of becoming the National League’s first Triple Crown winner since 1937, despite stealing his 59th base and helping the Los Angeles Dodgers rally past the Colorado Rockies 2-1 on Sunday.

Ohtani finished the regular season leading the NL in home runs (54) and RBIs (130), but his .310 batting average trailed San Diego’s Luis Arráez (.314) in the race for the Triple Crown.

The Dodgers’ victory came in the final game for Rockies veteran Charlie Blackmon, who was honored in a pregame ceremony. Blackmon, who spent all 14 of his MLB seasons with Colorado, went 1-for-2 before being lifted for a pinch runner in the third inning.

The game itself was a tight affair. Sam Hilliard gave the Rockies an early 1-0 lead with a 476-foot home run in the second inning, the fourth longest in the majors this season. However, the Dodgers tied the game in the eighth inning on a solo home run by Chris Taylor, his first since July 7th.

The Dodgers then took the lead on a balk by Rockies reliever Seth Halvorsen, who appeared to get his cleat caught in the dirt during his delivery. Austin Barnes, who had stolen third base as part of a double steal with Ohtani, scored the winning run.

Evan Phillips earned the win for the Dodgers, while Edgardo Henriquez picked up his first career save. The victory gives the Dodgers a major league-best 98-64 record, breaking a string of four straight full seasons with 100 or more wins. The NL West champions will open the Division Series on Saturday with home-field advantage throughout the postseason.

The Rockies, who finished the season with a record of 61-101, will be looking to rebuild after back-to-back 100-loss seasons.
