Tue Oct 01 10:21:18 UTC 2024: ## Bangladesh’s DRS Mishap Costs Them a Review and a Wicket in Kanpur Test
Kanpur, India – Day 1 of the second Test between India and Bangladesh saw a bizarre incident when Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto wasted a review on a clearly LBW dismissal.
Shanto, who was batting well for 31 runs, was given out caught after a bat-pad off Ravichandran Ashwin. Despite the clear evidence, he opted for a review, only to be given out LBW by the DRS. The ball tracker showed three reds, highlighting the clear line and impact of the delivery.
The decision sparked amusement amongst the commentators, with Sunil Gavaskar labeling the review a “waste” and pointing out Shanto’s error in going for a review before the catch was judged. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma was also seen sporting a sheepish smile, clearly entertained by the incident.
Earlier, Bangladesh’s innings started poorly with opener Zakir Hasan dismissed for a duck, becoming Akash Deep’s first wicket. Shadman Islam was also sent back for 24 after a controversial LBW decision that saw the ball tracker show three reds, sparking debate amongst the commentators.
Despite the early setbacks, Bangladesh managed to put up a respectable score of 107/3, with Mominul Haque, unbeaten on 40, providing a strong foundation. The day’s play was eventually cut short by bad light and rain, setting the stage for an exciting continuation in the coming days.
India, contrary to pre-match predictions, opted to field an unchanged XI, sticking with their three-pacer strategy despite the overcast conditions and the possibility of rain.
