**Kanpur, India:** Veteran Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was once again the architect of India’s success, leading the team to a dominant 2-0 series win over Bangladesh in the recently concluded Test series. The 38-year-old’s exceptional performance earned him the Player of the Series award for the 11th time in his career, equaling Sri Lanka legend Muttiah Muralitharan’s record.
Ashwin was instrumental in securing the victory in Kanpur, claiming crucial wickets in the second innings. He meticulously exploited the Bangladesh batting lineup, taking two wickets in the final hour of Day 4 before dismissing Mominul Haque on Day 5. This followed his century in the first Test in Chennai, which rescued India from a precarious position.
While acknowledging the significance of the award, Ashwin emphasized his focus on the process rather than the result. “I think you are making it sound like I am some serial killer, who is planning all these things, which I am not,” he responded to a question about his pursuit of awards. “Honestly, it probably mattered at one stage of my career, but I am well past that and able to accept whatever comes to me as a result.”
Ashwin highlighted his dedication to exploring new avenues and constantly evolving his game. “The greatest joy of playing the game is to be able to walk out to the net the day after or tomorrow and try something new,” he stated. “That’s the joy, not necessarily the wickets of player of the match/series awards, because you are gonna associate your happiness with that, then you are not going to be happy for a lot more days.”
India’s victory was a testament to their resilience and adaptability. Despite losing two and a half days of play, they adopted an aggressive approach, spearheaded by the bowlers who bundled out Bangladesh for 233 in the first innings. The batters, led by Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma, unleashed a blistering attack right from the outset, setting the tone for a dominant victory by seven wickets.
