Mon Sep 30 02:56:38 UTC 2024: ## Fire Engulfs Moscow Apartment Complex, Leaving One Dead and Several Injured

**Moscow, Russia** – A massive fire erupted in a residential complex in northwest Moscow early Monday morning, resulting in one fatality and several injuries. The blaze, which started in an apartment at the Seliger Complex on Ilmensky Proezd, quickly spread to multiple floors, forcing residents to evacuate.

One resident, desperate to escape the inferno, leaped from his fifth-floor window. Shocking video footage captured the moment residents below attempted to cushion his fall with a blanket, followed by the deployment of a mattress from a balcony. While the man survived the fall, he sustained multiple fractures.

Witnesses reported hearing multiple explosions during the fire, likely caused by gas cylinders stored in the burning apartment. Video footage showed a flaming canister flying out of the apartment, narrowly missing a bystander.

The fire, which engulfed over 100 square meters of the complex, was eventually extinguished by a crew of 88 firefighters using 27 units of equipment. While five people were rescued, firefighters sadly discovered one body in the charred remains of the apartment. The identity of the victim has not yet been released. Another four people, including a child, were injured in the fire.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire, but witnesses believe it may have originated in an apartment undergoing renovation. Several gas cylinders were reportedly delivered to the apartment the day before the blaze.
