**Shillong, September 24:** The Border Security Force (BSF) in Meghalaya has successfully thwarted two smuggling attempts on September 23, demonstrating their unwavering commitment to securing India’s borders.
In the first incident, BSF troops from the 1st Battalion apprehended a Bangladeshi national identified as Tonik Hajong (38), near the International Border in South West Khasi Hills district. Acting on intelligence, the BSF conducted a special operation near Border Outpost Kanai and found Hajong in possession of Bangladeshi currency worth 2,37,500 Taka.
Simultaneously, the 4th Battalion BSF intercepted a group attempting to smuggle cosmetic items valued at Rs 15 lakh across the border. Upon being challenged, the group abandoned their head loads and fled into the nearby jungle.
Both the apprehended individual and the seized items were handed over to the local police for further legal proceedings. The cosmetic items were subsequently handed over to the customs office.
These successful operations highlight the BSF’s vigilance and effective intelligence gathering, crucial in preventing illegal activities and safeguarding national security.
