Kanpur, India – India made an early breakthrough in the second Test against Bangladesh, securing two wickets in the first session to gain a crucial advantage.
Despite losing the toss and facing overcast conditions, Bangladesh openers Shadman Islam and Zakir Hasan made a steady start, negotiating the initial spells of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. However, it was Akash Deep who struck first for India, dismissing Zakir Hasan for a duck in his very first over. The young pacer induced an outside edge, with Yashasvi Jaiswal taking a sharp catch in the gully.
Akash Deep continued his impressive performance, striking again in his third over to dismiss the well-set Shadman Islam. The wicket was initially met with some confusion, as even skipper Rohit Sharma initially suggested the ball would turn away from the leg stump. However, the umpire’s call of LBW was upheld after a review revealed three reds, with the impact on the middle and leg stump.
The loss of two early wickets put Bangladesh on the back foot, leaving skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto and former captain Mominul Haque to bat through the remainder of the session. Although there were a couple of further LBW shouts from Siraj and Bumrah, Bangladesh managed to hold their line, hoping to reach the lunch break without further losses.
With Akash Deep demonstrating his prowess, India will be looking to build upon their early advantage in the second Test and continue their winning streak against Bangladesh.
