**Makhachkala, Dagestan** – A devastating explosion at a petrol station in the Russian region of Dagestan has claimed the lives of at least 13 people, including two children. The blast, which occurred on Friday, ignited a fire that engulfed the station, including a nearby cafeteria, on the outskirts of the regional capital, Makhachkala.

The fire has since been extinguished, but the tragedy has left the community reeling. Regional authorities have declared Saturday a day of mourning in Dagestan and have launched a criminal investigation into the cause of the explosion.

This incident marks the second major explosion at a gas station in Dagestan in less than a year. Last August, a massive blast at a different location in the region resulted in 35 deaths and over 100 injuries.

Makhachkala, located approximately 1,600km south of Moscow, is now grappling with the aftermath of this latest tragedy, as authorities work to determine the cause of the explosion and provide support to the victims’ families.
