**Cairo, Egypt** – The Egyptian Ministry of Oil and Mineral Resources is finalizing agreements with Canadian mining giant Barrick Gold and UK-based Centamin Company for gold exploration in a 3,000-square kilometer area of the Eastern Desert.
The two firms were awarded exploration contracts in 2020-2021 as part of the ministry’s competitive bidding process. However, final agreements detailing production sharing and other terms have been pending.
Oil and Mineral Resources Minister Karim Badawi is expected to oversee the signing of the final agreements within the next few weeks.
This development marks a significant step forward for Egypt’s mining sector. The Eastern Desert is known to contain substantial gold deposits, and the new agreements are expected to attract further investment and generate economic benefits for the country.
