**Orlando, FL (October 1, 2024)** – Central Florida is bracing for a day of extreme heat, with near-record high temperatures expected. The National Weather Service forecasts a sunny to partly cloudy day with highs reaching a scorching 113 degrees Fahrenheit. Winds will be out of the west-northwest at 10 to 15 mph.

Clear skies and cooler temperatures are expected overnight, with lows dropping to 83 degrees Fahrenheit. Winds will shift to the east-northeast at 5 to 10 mph.

This sweltering weather follows a recent trend of unusually high temperatures for the early autumn season. Residents are urged to take precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses, including staying hydrated, limiting outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day, and checking on vulnerable individuals.

Today is also a significant day in history. In 1957, the first paper currency bearing the U.S. motto “In God We Trust” entered circulation. Sports fans will remember that on October 1, 1961, Roger Maris hit his 61st home run of the season, breaking Babe Ruth’s single-season record.
