Tue Oct 01 11:20:02 UTC 2024: ## Virat Kohli Breaks Sachin Tendulkar’s Record, Reaches 27,000 International Runs

**Kanpur:** Virat Kohli, India’s star batsman, has etched his name in the record books once again, becoming the fastest cricketer to reach 27,000 international runs. In the second Test against Bangladesh at Green Park Stadium, Kohli achieved this milestone on Day 4, surpassing the legendary Sachin Tendulkar.

Kohli achieved this feat in just 594 innings, surpassing Tendulkar’s record of 623 innings. He stands alone as the only cricketer to reach 27,000 international runs in under 600 innings.

With this achievement, Kohli now occupies the fourth position on the list of highest run-scorers in international cricket. He trails behind Tendulkar (34,357), Kumar Sangakkara (28,016), and Ricky Ponting (27,483).

Kohli’s dominance extends beyond just Test cricket. He is the third highest run-scorer in ODIs with over 14,000 runs, placing him behind Tendulkar (18,426) and Sangakkara (14,234). He also holds the record for the most ODI half-centuries (50).

While he retired from T20 Internationals after India’s victory in the 2024 T20 World Cup, Kohli’s impact in the format remains significant. He is one of only three players with over 4,000 T20I runs and also holds the second position for the highest number of runs in the format.

Kohli’s current performance in the ongoing Test series against Bangladesh has put him on the brink of another significant milestone. With 8,900+ Test runs already under his belt, he is poised to become the fourth Indian batsman to reach 10,000 Test runs during the home season.

This achievement further cements Kohli’s legacy as one of the greatest batsmen of all time. His relentless pursuit of excellence and dedication to the sport continue to inspire generations of cricketers.
