Mon Sep 30 00:26:12 UTC 2024: ## Stalin’s Son Elevated as Deputy Chief Minister in Tamil Nadu
**Chennai:** Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin has appointed his son, Udhayanidhi, as Deputy Chief Minister, citing his son’s contributions to the state’s youth and sports development. Udhayanidhi has also been assigned the planning and development portfolio, in addition to his current responsibilities in youth welfare, sports development, special program implementation, and poverty alleviation.
The move has drawn mixed reactions, with some praising the young leader for his achievements and others criticizing the appointment. Udhayanidhi himself acknowledged the criticisms and promised to prove his worth through hard work and dedication.
In his statement, Chief Minister Stalin emphasized Udhayanidhi’s dedication to public service, highlighting his achievements in sports development and youth engagement. He also defended the appointment, stating that Udhayanidhi’s new role is not about assisting him, but rather about serving the people of Tamil Nadu.
The appointment also saw the re-induction of Senthil Balaji as a minister, despite his recent 15-month incarceration. Stalin reiterated that Balaji’s imprisonment was a “sacrifice” made due to a conspiracy against the DMK.
The cabinet reshuffle comes at a time when the DMK government is focused on implementing its “Dravidian model” of governance, which prioritizes social justice and inclusive growth. The appointments are seen as a strategic move by the ruling party to solidify its position ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.
