**Sumy, Ukraine** – Two consecutive Russian drone strikes on a medical center in Sumy, northeastern Ukraine, killed at least nine people on Saturday morning, according to Ukrainian officials. The first strike claimed one life, while the second attack targeted patients and staff evacuating the facility.
Local officials in Sumy identified the drones used in the attack as Shahed drones. Twelve other individuals were injured in the attacks.
Sumy lies close to Russia’s Kursk region, where Ukrainian troops have been deployed since August 6th to divert Russian military focus from the front lines.
Ukraine’s air force reported shooting down 69 out of 73 Russian drones launched overnight, as well as two out of four missiles.
In Kryvyi Rih, President Zelenskyy’s hometown, officials announced that a man’s body was discovered under the rubble of an administrative building hit by a Russian missile on Friday, bringing the death toll from that attack to four.
Russia’s Defense Ministry reported that air defenses had shot down four Ukrainian drones over the Belgorod region and one over the Kursk region overnight.
Ukrainian shelling of the Russian border city of Shebekino resulted in one fatality and two injuries, according to Belgorod regional Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov.
