Veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty has been awarded the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India’s highest film honor, recognizing his monumental contribution to Indian cinema. The award, announced by Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw, will be conferred upon Chakraborty during the 70th National Film Awards ceremony on October 8th, 2024.
Chakraborty’s iconic roles and electrifying dance numbers, like the unforgettable “I Am a Disco Dancer”, have made him a beloved figure in Indian cinema. His journey began in 1976 with “Mrigayaa”, which earned him the National Film Award for Best Actor. He has won two more National Film Awards for his performances in “Tahader Katha” (1992) and “Swami Vivekananda” (1998). He was also recently awarded the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian award.
