Mon Sep 30 05:39:42 UTC 2024: ## Assam Police Push Back 17 Bangladeshi Nationals, Including 8 Children, in Second Infiltration Attempt in 24 Hours
**Guwahati, Sep 28 (IANS)** – The Assam government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has taken a firm stance against infiltration from Bangladesh, pushing back 17 Bangladeshi nationals, including eight children, who attempted to enter India illegally on Saturday. This marks the second instance of thwarted infiltration attempts within 24 hours.
According to a statement from CM Sarma on X, Assam police apprehended the individuals, including Harul Lamin, Umai Khunsum, Md. Ismail, Sansida Begum, Rufiya Begum, Fatima Khatun, Mojur Rahman, Habi Ullah, and Sobika Begum, along with eight accompanying children, in the early hours of Saturday.
This incident follows a similar incident on Friday, where Assam Police identified and pushed back three Bangladeshi nationals – Masum Khan, Iqbal Hussain, and Mujanur Rehman – who attempted to cross the border illegally.
Chief Minister Sarma has emphasized the need for intensified efforts to curb infiltration, citing a recent spike in illegal immigrants detected in Assam. He has also shared data revealing that since January 2023, 54 illegal immigrants have been detected across the state, with 45 being pushed back to Bangladesh and nine arrested.
The Assam government has implemented stringent measures to address the issue, recognizing the potential threat to national security posed by illegal infiltration. The state has witnessed heightened vigilance and increased security measures along the Indo-Bangladesh border.
