Mon Sep 30 15:37:36 UTC 2024: ## Karnataka Revokes Consent for CBI Investigations

The Karnataka government has revoked its consent for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to conduct investigations in the state. This decision follows concerns about the agency’s alleged bias and lack of progress in several cases handed over to them by the state.

Law Minister H.K. Patil stated that the CBI had failed to submit charge sheets in many of the cases transferred to them, indicating a lack of commitment and impartiality. He also expressed dissatisfaction with the overall functioning of the CBI.

Karnataka’s move joins a growing list of states that have withdrawn their consent for CBI probes. Ten other states, including Kerala, West Bengal, Punjab, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Jharkhand, have already taken similar actions.

The government’s decision has sparked debate regarding the effectiveness and autonomy of the CBI. It remains to be seen whether this trend of states withdrawing consent will impact the agency’s future and its ability to conduct investigations across the country.
