Sun Sep 29 05:59:20 UTC 2024: ## Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann Diagnosed with Leptospirosis
**Chandigarh, India** – Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has been diagnosed with leptospirosis, a bacterial infection, and is currently receiving treatment at Fortis Hospital Mohali.
The 50-year-old AAP leader was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday for a routine check-up, where he was diagnosed with the disease after blood tests came back positive for leptospirosis.
According to a health bulletin issued by the hospital, Mann’s vitals are stable and he has been given appropriate antibiotics. He is showing signs of improvement.
Leptospirosis is a disease spread through contact with the urine of infected animals, often found in contaminated water or soil. Symptoms include high fever, headache, muscle pain, vomiting, and diarrhea. The infection can be self-limiting but can also spread to vital organs like the kidneys, brain, liver, and lungs in severe cases.
Dr M Wali, Senior Consultant at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, emphasized the difficulty in diagnosing leptospirosis, which can remain in the body for months. He advises avoiding loosely available food items from Kirana stores and ensuring proper hygiene to prevent exposure to the bacteria.
Leptospirosis is endemic to India, particularly in coastal states like Gujarat, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
While Mann is receiving treatment, the news highlights the importance of awareness and proper prevention measures against this potentially deadly disease.
