Sun Sep 29 06:59:03 UTC 2024: ## Udhayanidhi Stalin Appointed Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Setting Stage for 2026 Elections
In a significant political move, Udhayanidhi Stalin, son of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, has been appointed Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. The 47-year-old actor-turned-politician will now hold the additional portfolio of Planning and Development alongside his existing roles in Youth Welfare and Sports Development.
The appointment has been widely discussed in the state, with many seeing it as a strategic move by the DMK ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections. Udhayanidhi Stalin’s elevation is viewed as a means of strengthening the next generation of political leadership within the party.
The appointment comes at a time when Tamil actor Vijay has entered politics and is expected to make his electoral debut in the upcoming elections. Some speculate that Udhayanidhi Stalin’s elevation is a move to counter Vijay’s potential influence.
Simultaneously, the Tamil Nadu Governor has approved the induction of four new ministers: V Senthilbalaji, Dr Govi Chezhian, R Rajendran, and S M Nasar. Senthilbalaji, who was recently granted bail by the Supreme Court after being accused of money laundering, is expected to receive a portfolio upon his return.
The Governor also approved the removal of three ministers: T. Mano Thangaraj, Gingee K S Masthan, and K. Ramachandran.
The swearing-in ceremony for the newly appointed and reinstated ministers will take place on Sunday at 3:30 pm in Raj Bhavan, Chennai.
