**Kathmandu, Nepal:** Heavy rainfall in Nepal has resulted in devastating floods, claiming the lives of at least 112 people and displacing thousands. The education ministry has announced a three-day closure of all educational institutions in the wake of the disaster.

The floods, caused by incessant rain since Friday, have submerged many parts of the country, prompting flood warnings from disaster authorities. Thousands have been evacuated to safety.

According to Nepal Police Spokesperson Bishwo Adhikari, 34 of the 66 confirmed fatalities were in the Kathmandu Valley. The floods have also injured 60 people, and over 79 remain missing.

Rescue teams are actively searching for the missing persons, and have already saved over 3,000 people. Road transportation has been disrupted due to flooding, with 63 locations across the country witnessing blockages of major highways.

The Nepali Civil Aviation Authority has cancelled all domestic flights until Saturday morning due to unfavorable weather conditions. The Nepal Meteorological Forecasting Division has issued a four-day red alert warning for heavy rainfall, affecting 56 out of 77 districts.

This news comes as the country faces a growing humanitarian crisis, with countless homes damaged and families displaced.
