**Oakland, CA** – A man who went missing at the age of six in 1951 has been reunited with his family after 70 years, thanks to a DNA test and the persistent efforts of his niece. Luis Armando Albino, now in his 70s, vanished from an Oakland park while playing with his brother, Roger. A woman lured him away with the promise of candy, and he was subsequently taken to the East Coast and raised as a child by a couple who were unaware of his true identity.
Albino’s niece, Alida Alequin, took an online ancestry test in 2020 and was surprised to find a 22 percent match to an unknown relative. After years of research, piecing together old newspaper clippings and reports, Alequin discovered that the missing child from 1951 was, in fact, her uncle.
Alequin contacted the Oakland Police, who investigated and confirmed Albino’s identity through a DNA test. The reunion was emotional, with Albino embracing his niece and thanking her for finding him.
Albino, a retired firefighter and Marine Corps veteran, is now a father and grandfather. Sadly, his brother, Roger, passed away earlier this year after reuniting with him.
“We always knew I had an uncle,” Alequin told the Mercury News. “We spoke of him a lot.” The family is overjoyed at the reunion, after decades of wondering about Albino’s fate.
This remarkable story highlights the power of DNA testing in solving mysteries, and the enduring strength of family bonds that can withstand even the longest separation.
