**Chennai, India:** Ravichandran Ashwin, the star Indian spinner, revealed a heartwarming anecdote after leading India to a dominant victory against Bangladesh in the first Test at Chepauk. Despite his match-winning performance, Ashwin’s family, including his wife Prithi Narayanan and two daughters, had a playful complaint for him.
In a light-hearted interview shared by the BCCI, Prithi, who was present at the stadium with their children, questioned Ashwin about his absence during Day 1 of the Test. “The kids kept complaining that you didn’t see them on the first day,” Prithi quipped. Ashwin jokingly defended himself, stating that it’s hard to focus on family during a match, especially when the children constantly ask, “Why didn’t you say hi?”
The ace spinner’s wife also inquired about his special connection with Chepauk, where he achieved both a century and a five-wicket haul in the match. Ashwin attributed it to a special energy at the ground that keeps him going.
In a heartwarming gesture, Ashwin announced that he would be gifting the match-winning ball, with which he picked up a five-wicket haul against Bangladesh, to his daughters for Daughter’s Day.
Ashwin, who was adjudged Player of the Match, finished the Test with a six-wicket haul and his sixth Test century at his home ground. India clinched the first Test by a resounding 280 runs on Day 4, with Ashwin’s all-round performance leading the charge.
