Sun Sep 22 22:50:54 UTC 2024: ## Ashwin Shines as India Dominate Bangladesh in Chennai Test

**Chennai, India:** India secured a resounding 280-run victory over Bangladesh in the first Test match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday, taking a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. The hosts wrapped up the game with five sessions to spare, thanks to a stellar performance by Ravichandran Ashwin who was named Player of the Match.

Ashwin, playing in his hometown, proved instrumental in the win, claiming a staggering six wickets in Bangladesh’s second innings, adding to his earlier century in India’s first innings. This is Ashwin’s 37th five-wicket haul in Test cricket.

Resuming on 158-4, Bangladesh put up a spirited fight in the early hours of day four, with skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto and veteran all-rounder Shakib al Hasan adding 36 runs. However, the duo’s resistance was eventually broken by Ashwin, who took the crucial wicket of Shakib (25).

Jadeja then joined in the demolition, dismissing Litton Das and Shanto (82), who top-scored for Bangladesh. Ashwin completed his six-wicket haul by removing Taskin Ahmed and Hasan Mahmud, while Jadeja rounded off the victory in the 63rd over.

The Bangladesh batting line-up crumbled under the pressure of chasing a massive 515 for victory, losing their final six wickets for just 40 runs in 45 deliveries.

This resounding win sees India take a commanding lead in the series heading into the final Test match in Kanpur on Friday. The team will be looking to capitalize on their momentum and secure a series victory.
