Sun Sep 22 21:10:47 UTC 2024: ## India Dominates Bangladesh in First Test, Ashwin Leads to Commanding Victory

**Chennai, India:** India secured a resounding 280-run victory over Bangladesh in the first Test match in Chennai, taking a 1-0 lead in the series. The match was dominated by India, particularly thanks to the all-round brilliance of Ravichandran Ashwin, who was awarded the “Player of the Match”.

Ashwin, speaking to JioCinema, highlighted his evolved approach to both batting and bowling in Test cricket. While his primary focus remains bowling, he has significantly improved his batting, attributing the success to a simpler mindset and focusing on reacting to the ball.

India, after a shaky start, recovered well in their first innings thanks to a crucial 199-run partnership between Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, reaching 376. Bangladesh, struggling to build momentum, was bowled out for a paltry 149 in their first innings, putting them behind by 227 runs.

In India’s second innings, centuries from Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant helped them declare at 287/4, setting Bangladesh a target of 515. Despite a promising start, Bangladesh’s chase fell apart due to consistent pressure from India’s bowlers, particularly Ashwin and Jadeja, who claimed a combined nine wickets.

Ashwin, with figures of 6/88, and Jadeja, taking 3/58, effectively shut down Bangladesh’s batting line-up, ultimately leading to a dominant Indian victory. The second Test of the series is set to begin on December 22nd in Dhaka.
