Mon Sep 23 14:12:53 UTC 2024: ## Congress Leader Kumari Selja Rejects BJP Offer, Insists on Loyalty Amidst Party Rift

**Chandigarh:** Senior Congress leader Kumari Selja on Monday rejected an offer to join the BJP by Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, stating that her loyalty to the Congress party runs deep. The rejection comes amid rumors of infighting within the Congress and Selja’s apparent dissatisfaction with the party’s ticket allocation for the upcoming Haryana Assembly elections.

Khattar, addressing Selja’s perceived mistreatment by the Congress, had invited her to join the BJP, suggesting that any self-respecting individual would reconsider their allegiance after such treatment. However, Selja, a prominent Dalit face within the Congress, vehemently rejected the offer, emphasizing her commitment to the party. “Congress runs through my veins,” she declared, highlighting her father’s legacy as a staunch Congress supporter.

The Congress dismissed Khattar’s accusations, urging the BJP to focus on its own internal issues and reaffirming Selja’s loyalty as a party worker.

Selja’s public statements follow her alleged dissatisfaction with the party’s ticket allocation for the upcoming polls. Despite her keen interest in contesting from Uklana, the party opted to field another candidate, fueling speculation about a rift within the Haryana Congress unit.

Selja acknowledged internal discussions within the Congress, attributing them to the party’s constant evolution and decision-making processes. She also clarified that her ambition to contest the elections was not driven by personal gain but a desire to serve the people.

The recent events have highlighted a power struggle within the Haryana Congress, with Selja reportedly sidelined by the party’s favoritism towards former Chief Minister Bhupinder Hooda. This tension was evident in the parallel padyatras (foot marches) organized by Selja and the Hoodas earlier this year, further intensifying the intra-party rivalry.

With the Haryana Assembly elections drawing near, the Congress will be looking to overcome internal divisions and present a united front to secure victory. The party’s leadership will need to address the concerns of prominent members like Selja to ensure a cohesive campaign strategy.
