Mon Sep 23 14:13:02 UTC 2024: ## Congress MP Kumari Selja Claims CM Candidacy in Haryana Elections
**Sirsa, Haryana:** Amidst the ongoing Haryana Assembly elections, Congress MP Kumari Selja has staked her claim for the Chief Minister’s post if the party comes to power. She firmly stated that “This is not a past opportunity that won’t return.” Selja categorically rejected any possibility of becoming Deputy CM and dismissed rumors about her joining the BJP. “Congress is in my blood,” she asserted, accusing the BJP of spreading false information.
Meanwhile, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s visit to Haryana was abruptly cancelled due to his ill health. He was scheduled to address rallies in Ambala and Karnal on Monday. This was to be Kharge’s first visit to Haryana in the context of the upcoming elections.
Selja’s comments came after a series of questions regarding her ambitions and political standing within the party. She insisted that the decision for the Chief Minister’s candidate would ultimately rest with the Congress high command and ruled out ever accepting a deputy role. Selja also responded to criticisms about her limited influence within the party, stating that “Ultimately, everyone bears the stamp of the Congress party.”
While acknowledging internal differences, Selja remained confident about the Congress’s victory and her own contribution to it. She dismissed rumors regarding her alleged dissatisfaction with the party, emphasizing her commitment to Congress principles.
In a separate development, Congress leader Randeep Surjewala confirmed Selja’s participation in the campaign, stating that she will be addressing a rally in Narwana on September 26th.
The Congress’s campaign in Haryana will focus on local issues, although the party previously campaigned on a platform of “farmers, wrestlers, and soldiers” during the Lok Sabha elections.
