Sun Sep 22 04:51:02 UTC 2024: ## Atishi Takes Charge as Delhi’s Eighth Chief Minister, Focuses on Kejriwal’s Return to Power

**New Delhi, September 22, 2024** – Atishi, the newly appointed Chief Minister of Delhi, has vowed to prioritize ensuring Arvind Kejriwal’s return to power in the upcoming Assembly elections. During her inaugural press conference on Saturday, Atishi stated her objective is to complete the unfinished work of the previous AAP government, which she claims was stalled by the BJP.

Atishi’s tenure as CM will be temporary, lasting only four months, with Kejriwal currently out of jail and expected to resume his position soon. She highlighted the importance of preventing the BJP from succeeding in their alleged conspiracy against Kejriwal.

The new Cabinet retains several senior AAP leaders, including Gopal Rai, Saurabh Bharadwaj, Kailash Gahlot, and Imran Hussain. Mukesh Ahlawat, a first-time MLA, has been added to the cabinet. Bharadwaj’s portfolio has expanded to include Cooperative and Social Welfare, in addition to his previous six departments.

With several projects pending and Cabinet meetings on hold since Kejriwal’s arrest in June, Atishi faces a challenging task. The AAP government aims to secure clearance for various schemes before the election, including the ‘Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana’ and the Electric Vehicle Policy 2.0, both of which promise benefits to Delhi’s residents.

Atishi will also be responsible for overseeing the National Capital Civil Service Authority meetings, which handle the transfers and postings of bureaucrats in the Delhi government.

While AAP leaders expressed optimism about continuing Kejriwal’s work, Delhi BJP Chief Virendra Sachdeva expressed skepticism, calling Atishi an “unsuccessful Minister” and stating that the public has “no expectations from her government.” He believes that the new CM’s appointment is merely a cosmetic change and that the government’s corruption and irresponsibility will persist.

Delhi Congress President Devender Yadav echoed these sentiments, stating that Atishi, despite holding 13 portfolios in the previous government, failed to address Delhi’s problems. He dismissed any hope of the new CM performing miracles in the next few months as “wishful thinking.”
