Sun Sep 22 12:50:45 UTC 2024: ## Real Madrid Fight Back to Defeat Espanyol 4-1

**Madrid, Spain** – Real Madrid secured a thrilling 4-1 victory over Espanyol in La Liga on Saturday, despite falling behind in the second half.

The reigning champions dominated possession but found themselves trailing in the 54th minute after a bizarre own goal by goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois. However, Real quickly responded with an equalizer just four minutes later through Dani Carvajal, who capitalised on a mistake by Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia.

Vinicius Jr then entered the fray and proved to be the difference-maker. The Brazilian winger provided a brilliant assist for Rodrygo in the 75th minute before scoring a goal of his own three minutes later.

Kylian Mbappe sealed the victory from the penalty spot in the 90th minute after substitute Endrick was fouled.

Despite a dominant performance, Real Madrid captain Luka Modric acknowledged room for improvement. “We played a very good game but it’s true that it was difficult for us to finish plays,” he said. “We created a lot of chances but we have a lot of room for improvement.”

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti echoed these sentiments. “I don’t know if it was our best or not, but it was a great game,” he said. “We must continue like today. To have Vinicius, Mbappe, Bellingham and Rodrygo is awesome; they are great.”

With the win, Real Madrid stay second in the La Liga table, one point behind leaders Barcelona who have a game in hand. Real next face Alaves on Tuesday before a highly anticipated derby clash against Atletico Madrid next weekend.
