Sun Sep 22 07:51:07 UTC 2024: ## Pant’s Century Marks Triumphant Return to Test Cricket in India’s Dominant Win Over Bangladesh
**Chennai, India -** Rishabh Pant roared back into Test cricket with a sensational century, declaring “Test cricket is where I belong the most” after a dominant performance in India’s resounding 280-run victory over Bangladesh in the first Test at Chepauk Stadium on Sunday.
Pant, who recovered from a serious car accident in December 2022, smashed his sixth Test ton, his first since returning to competitive cricket. His 109 off 128 balls, laced with 13 fours and four sixes, was instrumental in India’s imposing second innings total of 287/4 declared.
“100 was special because I love playing in Chennai. After injury, I wanted to play all three formats and this was my first Test. Hope to get better every day,” said Pant, who shared a crucial 167-run partnership with Shubman Gill (119) for the fourth wicket.
Gill also struck a century, setting Bangladesh an improbable target of 515 runs to win. However, the visitors were bowled out for 234 in their second innings, succumbing to the relentless Indian bowling attack.
Ravichandran Ashwin, who scored a century in the first innings, starred once again, claiming a six-wicket haul in the second innings (6/88). Ravindra Jadeja chipped in with 3/58, leaving the Bangladeshi batsmen struggling.
Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto top-scored for Bangladesh with 82 runs.
The victory was a testament to India’s dominance, with the team securing the win with more than five sessions to spare. Pant’s return and the impressive performances of Ashwin and Jadeja solidified India’s position as a force to be reckoned with in the Test arena.
