**New York, September 22, 2023:** Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded his three-day visit to the United States, which included the Quad Leaders Summit in Wilmington, Delaware, and a community event in New York.
During the Quad summit, PM Modi emphasized the group’s commitment to a rules-based international order and its support for a peaceful Indo-Pacific region. The leaders issued a joint statement, the Wilmington Declaration, pledging to work towards a more representative UN Security Council and addressing threats posed by terrorism and violent extremism.
The summit also saw discussions on countering China’s activities in the South China Sea and a joint initiative to train doctors in the Indo-Pacific region to screen for cervical cancer.
PM Modi held bilateral meetings with US President Joe Biden, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, discussing cooperation in areas such as infrastructure, semiconductors, defence, and green energy.
In a significant development, India and the US agreed to establish a national security semiconductor fabrication plant in India, to be operational by 2025. This “Shakti” lab will supply chips to both US and Indian armed forces.
Following the Quad summit, PM Modi traveled to New York, where he addressed a large community event at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Long Island. He will also address the UN Summit of the Future on September 23 before returning to India.
PM Modi’s visit to the US saw a flurry of activities, including a meeting with President Biden where the two leaders discussed the “defining partnership of the 21st century” between India and the US. The visit concluded with the US government returning 297 antiquities to India, further strengthening cultural ties between the two nations.
