Sun Sep 22 16:51:04 UTC 2024: ## PM Modi Energizes Indian Diaspora in New York, Highlights US-India Ties
New York, September 22, 2024 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a vibrant gathering of the Indian community in Long Island, New York, on Sunday, emphasizing the strong bonds between India and the United States.
During his speech, PM Modi playfully redefined the acronym “AI,” stating, “For the world, AI means artificial intelligence, but for me, AI also means American-Indian spirit.” He underscored the role of the Indian diaspora in strengthening the India-US partnership, calling them the “new AI power of the world.”
The Prime Minister, who was greeted with chants of “Modi, Modi,” also acknowledged the global reach of Indian culture, noting how the greeting “Namaste” has transcended borders. He emphasized the enduring connection between India and its diaspora, stating, “Even though you have travelled overseas, but no sea is so deep that can distance you from India.”
The event at the Nassau Coliseum was brimming with excitement, featuring traditional Indian dance performances and a sea of “Welcome Modi” posters in various languages. Over 500 artists are set to showcase their talents throughout the event.
PM Modi’s visit follows his participation in the Quad Leaders’ Summit in Delaware, where he engaged in discussions on topics such as security cooperation and technology sharing with US President Joe Biden, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. The Prime Minister stressed the importance of a rules-based international order and respect for sovereignty in a veiled reference to China.
His New York itinerary also includes a speech at the Summit of the Future at the United Nations General Assembly and a roundtable discussion with CEOs of American firms working on cutting-edge technologies. While a meeting with former US President Donald Trump has been announced, confirmation from both sides is still pending.
