Sat Sep 21 10:09:26 UTC 2024: ## Brit on Foot Faces Final Challenge: Crossing Channel Tunnel to Finish 25-Year Global Walk

Hull native Karl Bushby, on a mission to walk the globe “with unbroken footsteps” since 1998, faces his final obstacle: crossing the Channel Tunnel. Bushby’s “Goliath Expedition” has taken him over 36,000 miles, far exceeding his initial 12-year goal.

The journey has been fraught with challenges, including three major “gaps” between countries requiring meticulous planning. He has faced arrests, visa issues, and even a five-year ban from Russia.

Now, with only 21 miles left to home, Bushby faces the daunting task of navigating the Channel Tunnel. Due to the rules of his expedition, he cannot use any form of transport, leaving him no choice but to utilize the tunnel’s service passage designed for maintenance workers.

While this tunnel, located between the main rail tracks, provides a potential solution, Bushby needs permission to traverse it. He expressed hope that authorities will allow him passage after decades of effort.

“Would they say no after decades of effort and only 21 miles from home?” Bushby asked, as quoted by the Armchair Adventure Festival.

If successful, Bushby will finally be able to rest his feet after 25 years on the road. However, given the challenges he’s faced in the past, it’s anyone’s guess what awaits him in this final stretch.
