Chennai, India – Drone manufacturer Garuda Aerospace is set to establish a dedicated Defence Drone facility in Chennai, further bolstering the Indian government’s ‘Make in India’ campaign. The facility, planned in collaboration with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML), will feature state-of-the-art drone design, manufacturing, and testing capabilities.
During a recent meeting with Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Garuda Aerospace founder-CEO Agnishwer Jayaprakash outlined the company’s vision for the facility. It will focus on the indigenous development of drone subsystems and the local production of critical components like drone motors, batteries, and transmitters.
The facility will contribute to the development of drones with Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities, alongside swarm drones, tethered drones, and underwater drones.
“Garuda Aerospace’s plan of ‘Make in India for the world’ received great appreciation from the Defence Minister, who offered his full support to expand Garuda’s operations in line with the vision of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ (self-reliant India),” stated Jayaprakash. He also discussed recent partnerships with Agrowing (Israel) and Spirit Aeronautics (Greece), highlighting their role in furthering the company’s goals.
The establishment of this facility signifies the growing importance of Defence drone technology in India, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for the country’s armed forces. Garuda Aerospace aims to play a key role in realizing this vision.
