**New Delhi:** Atishi, chosen as the leader of the AAP legislative party earlier this week following Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation as Chief Minister, was sworn in as Delhi’s new Chief Minister at the Raj Niwas on Saturday evening.
Following the oath ceremony, Atishi touched the feet of Arvind Kejriwal, the national convenor of AAP and former Chief Minister, as a mark of respect. She was dressed in a blue saree for the occasion.
Atishi, who is the third woman to hold the post of Delhi Chief Minister after Sheila Dikshit of the Congress and Sushma Swaraj of the BJP, is the 17th woman to become a Chief Minister in independent India.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Kejriwal, former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, and other AAP leaders and MLAs.
Along with Atishi, new cabinet ministers including Gopal Rai, Kailash Gahlot, Saurabh Bhardwaj, Imran Hussain, and Mukesh Ahlawat also took oath. Ahlawat, a first-time MLA from Sultanpur Majra, is a new face in the Delhi cabinet.
Following the ceremony, the ministries were distributed among the cabinet members.
The oath of office and secrecy was administered by Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena. He extended his best wishes to the new cabinet.
