Sun Sep 22 14:51:28 UTC 2024: ## Delhi Welcomes New Chief Minister Atishi, Stepping into Kejriwal’s Shoes
**New Delhi, August 13, 2024:** A historic shift in Delhi’s political landscape took place on Saturday as Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi was sworn in as the new Chief Minister, taking over from Arvind Kejriwal. The ceremony, overseen by Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, marks a pivotal moment ahead of the 2025 assembly elections.
A seasoned ministerial team, including Gopal Rai, Kailash Gahlot, Saurabh Bharadwaj, Imran Hussain, and newcomer Mukesh Ahlawat, were inducted alongside Atishi. The transition was finalized earlier this week when AAP lawmakers unanimously elected Atishi as the Chief Ministerial candidate.
Kejriwal’s sudden resignation followed his securing bail from the Supreme Court in connection with the Delhi liquor policy corruption case. He hinted at a return to the top post only if given a “certificate of honesty” by voters in the upcoming elections.
Atishi now faces the critical task of completing the current government’s term, which ends in February 2025, while maintaining AAP’s momentum for the elections. Key welfare initiatives, such as the Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana, Electric Vehicle Policy 2.0, and doorstep delivery of services, are among her priorities.
In her address, Atishi expressed gratitude to Kejriwal and emphasized her commitment to building upon AAP’s legacy. She passionately called for a decisive mandate in the upcoming elections, urging voters to re-elect Kejriwal as Chief Minister.
She also warned against the potential rollback of key AAP schemes like free electricity, water, and bus travel for women if the opposition BJP comes to power. This highlights her focus on protecting people’s welfare.
Atishi, an Oxford-educated Rhodes Scholar, has risen rapidly through the ranks, from advisor in 2015 to MLA in 2020, and now Chief Minister. She is known for her transformative work in Delhi’s public education sector. As the third woman to hold the office after Sushma Swaraj and Sheila Dikshit, her tenure is expected to leave a lasting impact.
The focus now shifts to how Atishi navigates the political challenges ahead and ensures AAP’s victory in 2025.
